For the second time this week - South Africa - which has been dealing with it's first ever incursion of HPAI H5N8 over the past 7 weeks - notified the OIE of (3) additional poultry outbreaks today.
This brings to 16 the number of outbreaks, 12 of which are in poultry holdings, and 4 in wild birds.But more significantly, two of today's outbreaks are reported in SA's Western Cape Province. This signals a new expansion of the virus, as up until today, all of South Africa's outbreaks have been clustered in the northeast part (Mpumalanga & Gauteng Provinces) of the the country.
